The winners of each award are judged by charities and organisations that advocate for minority groups and therefore have a deep understanding of the challenges and issues these groups face.
The inaugural Diversify TV Excellence Awards were held in October 2017 in Cannes, France and have continued to be held annually, shining a light on diverse programming from around the world.
Notable successes include 2017 winner, Belgian drama Team Chocolat, being remade in Italian for public broadcaster Rai Uno and be placed into active development with German public broadcaster ZDF. Also, Australian Children’s show First Day, which was commissioned as a standalone episode to celebrate the 2017 International Day of the Girl, go on to receive a 4 episode series commission after its 2018 win.
